Quote: "Most often in Hollywood, actors play parts that represent their own personalities wonderfully. My roles try to reach outside my own personalities and my own projects to better define my acting career as a whole. As my career is better defined, the roles I take on as an actress lead to bigger and better projects."

Biography: Carla Gugino

Carla and her mother relocated to Paradise, California, when Carla was just five years old. Throughout her childhood, they moved many times within the state, enabling Carla to experience "so much of life so quickly," she says. Though frequently on the move, Carla's schoolwork never suffered, and she remained a straight-A student throughout high school and graduated as valedictorian.

During this time, a major modeling agency discovered Carla in San Diego and sent her to New York to begin a new career when she was just fifteen. New York was more than she could handle at that young age, so she returned to Los Angeles in the summer, modeling and enrolling in an acting class at the suggestion of her aunt, Carol Merril, of "Price is Right" fame. During her first class with drama coach Gene Bua, Carla fell in love with acting. That prompted her to strike a deal with her mom to continue her studies and acting lessons in Los Angeles for the next six months. Just days before the six months ended, she was cast in her first feature film, "Troop Beverly Hills," with Shelley Long.

Carla consistently chooses a wide variety of roles, having appeared in movies such as "This Boy's Life" opposite Robert DeNiro and Leonardo DiCaprio, and the critically acclaimed cable movie, "A Private Matter," opposite Aidan Quinn and Sissy Spacek. Carla was also seen in the cable "Drive-In Classics" series in an episode directed by John Milius, entitled "Motorcycle Gang," as well as the box-office hit, "Son-In-Law," opposite Pauly Shore.

Recently, Carla has appeared in Spy Kids and The Center of the World. She can soon be seen in the newest Jet Lee film, The One.
